100th Post Giveaway

Watch your mailbox next week. These invitations are going to the post office on Monday.

Back when I first began blogging about the shop in December of '06, I was a new-ish store owner with just a little more than a year's experience under my belt. (If you've only recently discovered us, be sure to check out our Blog 1.0 to catch up on the archives.) For goodness sake, we even had a slightly different store name back then and we had just acquired new, expanded digs in a community forty-five minutes away from where we first opened our doors. Hard to believe that with as chatty as I can be, it took me almost seventeen months to reach my 100th post! But here we are and this one's all for you.

In just two weeks, THE BLISSFUL will host its friends--and yes, of course you're invited--at our annual Paris in the Springtime event. We hope you'll join us for four days of nibbling, sipping, laughing, and of course SHOPPING! We're running a great weekend-long promotion, as well as two fantastic drawings. Come and bring friends. Let's pack the shop out in the spirit of the best little cafés à Paris! More details to follow once our invites land in mailboxes next week.

To help celebrate this annual store event and to spread some of our joie de vivre from coast to coast, we are having a 100th Post Giveaway here on Lettres. We're giving away a passel of great French-inspired goodies to one lucky winner. All you have to do to enter our Giveaway is to take a short, four question quiz and post your responses in a comment on THIS post. The deadline for entering is Sunday, April 20th at 11:59 PM EST. On Monday the 21st, we'll choose a winner using this random number generator. The winner will be contacted via e-mail, so be sure that if you enter, your e-mail address is accessible through your blog or website so that we can contact you if you win (i.e. if you post anonymously and do not have a blog or website, please include your e-mail address in your comment or e-mail it to us privately at info@theblissful.com). Clear enough? Oh, and our Giveaway is open to blog readers from all fifty states, from locales beyond, as well as to our local customers in our very own neighborhood.

Now on to the goodies. Here's what's up for grabs:

No. 1. This book (just one page shown here). A coffee-table-to-bathtub book on the glories and curiosities of the French way of life. The cover will entice dreamers of all ages. Whimsical, endlessly informative, and delightfully designed. Not yet for sale in our online boutique, so consider this a preview!

No. 2. Your choice of one of seven Patisserie candles by Tatine. Choose from Carrot Cake, Framboise, Café Crème, Madeleine, Pink Sugar, Crème Brulée, or Chocolat. An absolutely scrumptious burn, almost as good as eating the real thing.

No. 3. A copper fleur de lis cookie cutter.

No. 4. A block of our Savon de Marseille in one of four fragrances: Lavender, Rose, Verbena, or Orange. All feature crushed local flowers (that's local from France, not from Canton) and are scrubby and wonderful and perfect for the bath or by the kitchen sink. Oh, why not, let's throw our pure Olive Oil Savon in as an option, too! No crushed flowers in this one (so less exfoliating), but very rich and moisturizing.

No. 5. And a handpicked surprise from our Atelier. New file folders from Cavallini & Co.? A Pink Paris Paperweight? A box of our French Home Notecards? Or perhaps one of our musical CDs featuring tunes you would hear when rambling through THE BLISSFUL? We'll let this last goody remain a surprise until the winner is chosen.

Now...

How to Enter
To enter our contest, please leave a Comment with answers to our simple four question quiz. You don't need a blog in order to be able to leave a comment. Simply click the Comments tab at the bottom of this post, type your answers in the box, and voila! You are entered. One entry per person, please.

In your comment, simply number your responses 1-4 and post the letter of your answer. However, we don't mind long windedness, so feel free to elaborate on any or all questions if you wish. Consider this a cheap way for us to generate some market research, and the possibility of a very sweet reward for your time and thoughtfulness.

Now on to the questions:

1. Which style of decorating most resonates with you?
a) Contemporary
b) European
c) Bohemian
d) Traditional

2. After purchasing one time from an online boutique, which of the following qualities would MOST make you want to return to shop online with that boutique a second time?
a) exquisite packaging
b) better than expected product quality
c) super fast shipping
d) extra surprise item included in package

3. If you had fantasy money to spend in the online boutique of your dreams, in which product category would you be MOST likely to spend your money?
a) jewelry, handbags, apparel
b) home decor, furnishings, accents
c) stationery, paper items
d) apothecary, candles

4. Which characteristic of a brick-and-mortar shop would MOST ensure your loyalty as a customer?
a) attentive, personalized customer service--I like the people who work there
b) imaginative, interesting atmosphere--I like the way I feel when I'm there
c) regular influx of new product, store changes often--I like discovering something new each time
d) unique, desirable merchandise--I like knowing I can find different things there that I don't see elsewhere

Thank you for playing and we can't to meet our winner. Bonne Chance!

First of all Abby let me say congrats on your retail success, it takes a creative, patient, smart, resourceful and "Blissful" person to make a go of it in any business, but especially this one because it requires you to also be part mind reader . Bravo to you !

Question #1.....my answers are ABC&D because it takes a little bit of all of these to make for a memorable and delightfully cozy home.
Question #2....ABC....no extra surprise needed as I don't want you to go out of business !
Question #3......BCD...even though jewelry & handbags are nice I find home decor, stationery and candles much more fun and the sizes always fit !
Question #4...ABC&D...You've spoiled everyone with all of the above, how could we ever do without again. Don't worry I know a nice wig maker I can set you up with after you go bald from losing all of your hair to the stress of success !!

The world desperately needs more individuality and I applaud you for your tenacity in showing others the way. Much future success and Viva la France !!

Signed,
"In love with an illusion"

1. I'm not sure (I like a little of each), but if I have to choose just one I'll pick b).

2. b). The other options are wonderful too, but the most important factor is quality.

3. c).

4. d). I also definitely appreciate a) and b). While I like c) to some extent, I also like knowing that I can reliably get my favourite things, so I'm sometimes disappointed if a store changes too quickly.

Congratulations on 100 posts!

Congratulations on the 100th post, I have enjoyed every one of them!! I wish I lived closer, because I would be at the Paris in the Springtime event as soon as the doors opened!

1. b) European
2. a) exquisite packaging & quality is always a plus!
3. b) home decor, furnishings, accents
4. d) unique, desirable merchandise--I like knowing I can find different things there that I don't see elsewhere

This is quite fun, Abby! Although I'm having trouble deciding on my answers :) After careful consideration, here are my answers:

1. a cross between B and D (My tastes are too eclectic to pick just one!)
2. B (I do love exquisite packaging too! And an extra surprise item would be lovely! But good quality is the MOST important to me, hence my answer.)
3. B (A would be my second choice, but it's always a little risky buying apparel w/o the chance to try it on)
4. D (However, A is very important, b/c if the personnel is unfriendly or unpleasant, I probably wouldn't shop there very often.)

Well, I kind of cheated on question 1, but I saw someone else had more than one answer, so I figured I could get away with it. Also, concerning question 4, The Blissful has all of those characteristics! I just thought I'd slip that in :)

Happy 100th Post!

Please enter me in your anniversary contest.
1. d--traditional with a tiny bit of contemporary
2, b--quality is very important to me, although a litle "something, something" extra is always a treat too.
3. b--I'm more of a home decorator than a self-decorator.
4. d--I like to find unique eclectic one-of-a-kind items I don't see everywhere else.

Congratulations on your success! I can only imagine the hard work a gorgeous shop like yours requires. How I'd love to close my eyes real tight and wish myself across country to visit in person.
1. b) Romantic European farmhouse
2. b & c) Quality is most important, but slow shipping is discouraging.
3. b) Home decor, but if we're talking real fantasy money here, unusual jewelry is a close second.
4. d) Unique stuff. For sure!

1. Traditional - I have an 1804 house filled with 18th and 19th century antiques. LOVE them!! BUT, at Christmas time, I pull out all the stops and kind of go crazy with Christmas trees and mercury glass and silver anything. My daughter and I made the trip from PA to your shop last Christmas and I was thrilled with your Christmas goodies!!

2. B Anytime something arrives and is even better than expected, it's just the best feeling. I would come back again and again.

3. A. Jewelry and Bags are my downfall. And C, especially at Christmas time.

4. D. Finding the unusual is the very best. And C, finding new unusual stuff each time is a bonus!

Thank you! Liz and I hope to make the trip again this Christmas. It's so worth the 8-hour drive!!

Hey there friend, I'm so behind on my blog reading but fortunately I've made it in time for your giveaway!

1. European
2. Better than expected quality
3. Oh this was tough. I'd buy a bit of each if it was fantasy money.
4. If I had to pick, I start with D, unique merchandise. I really don't buy a lot of "stuff" for myself, but when I do need to head out and buy a gift for someone, I always head to the same little shop that I can find something unique and special.

Last tip for you on what I buy, my favorite gifts for people LOOK special, like a gift, right there in the store. The packaging it comes in is what I look for. Candles that come in a special box, soaps that come in a fancy box,...and stores that offer quality complimentary gift wrapping are always my favorites!

Blessings to you!
Melissa

Congratulations! I love EVERYTHING you have in your online store and "on-the-street" store! I am blessed to live in Alliance which, of course, is only about 45 min. away. I've been to the store a few times and am totally enamored over everything I've purchased. All of your wares are so classy and fun.
Here go my answers: (though I hate to only have one choice!)
#1 d
#2 b
#3 b
#4 c(with a,b,& d all vying for second place! Hmmmm, they ALL just described your store!
Thanks for having this contest. Hope to get back to the store soon.

Abby~
Geez Louise, I take a blog break and almost miss out on this! I've got less than an hour to spare...serendipity for sure!

Happy 100th Post. I've enjoyed reading your lovely blog as much as I enjoy shopping in your fabulous boutique.

My answers:
1. b) European, I guess. Mixing old and new, mostly lighter colors, curvy silhouettes.
2. a) Foolish as it may sound, I'd buy dirt in a beautiful package.
3. Oh, this is a tough one. I'm torn between b and d. (only because clothes rarely fit me right and I usually buy vintage handags....and I have too much paper as it is, but I do love all of those things!)
4. Again, hard to decide. All of them to be honest. I know that is so not the answer you were looking for. I'll narrow it down to b and c.

Wish I had been in town for Paris in the Springtime...
All the best,
andrea
